Where You Will Study

Kyushu University is located in the city of Fukuoka, the largest metropolis of Kyushu Island with a population of approximately 1.4m. It is about 1,170 kilometers from Tokyo, which is a five-hour ride by super express train, Shinkansen, or a ninety-minute flight by air. The climate is generally mild and the city has the reputation of one of the most habitable cities in Asia.

For additional program specific information, please refer to the program homepage.

Academics

The current five-week-long program, Asia in Today's World (ATW) focuses on Asia. You can study about the past, present and future of Asia and Japan in English.  Students will take Japanese courses (ranging from beginner to intermediate) in the mornings, followed by cultural topics in the afternoon.

Kyushu University will also organize extracurriculur trips and events, so that students can experience some traditional Japanese culture while abroad.

Summer in Japan 2017 (SIJ2017) is a 5-week, summertime, intensive study abroad program that Kyushu University offers for credit to students from around the world. Designed for undergraduate-level students in all academic fields, SIJ2017 offers participants a comprehensive package of resources, opportunities, and hands-on experiences to become familiar with, or further deepen their understanding of, Japan in today’s social, cultural, political and economic contexts. Using English as the primary medium of instruction, SIJ2017 offers participants both traditional in-class academic coursework and off-campus activities for experiential learning. Together, both types of activities facilitate, in an intensive and effective manner, participants’ understanding of contemporary Japanese society and culture.

Housing

All participants of SIJ2017 will stay at Ito Campus University dormitory for 2 weeks then a homestay for 3 weeks at local residents’ houses.

Further housing information can be found here.
