Program Description

This program is geared to students who would like to immerse themselves in Turkish language and culture in the historic city of Istanbul. Courses will be taken at a language institute alongside other international students. As on-site support is often very limited, participants in this program must be self-directed and independent.

The international summer program in Turkish Language and Culture is an accredited program which offers courses at three basic levels of language instruction taught by university staff specialized in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. The program provides intensive instruction in Turkish to adult learners while offering them an opportunity to have first-hand experience with the Turkish culture.

Overview

The Turkish Language and Culture Courses are designed for beginning to advanced Turkish speakers. Class size is limited to 10 students. Each level receives 160 hours of instruction during the program. Classes are held on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students meet with their teaching assistants for 1 hour in the afternoon for conversation.

Housing

Two dormitory options are available in either the Ucaksavar Dorm or the Superdorm. The Ucaksavar Dorm provides single occupancy per room in a 2-room suite or double occupancy per room in a 2-room suite. Superdorm provides single occupancy per room in a 4-5 room suite.
