       HIGHLIGHTS
General The American University in Cairo was founded in 1919 by Americans devoted to education and community service in the Middle East. Today, AUC is the region's premier English-language university -- an essential contributor to the social, political and cultural life of the Arab world. It also serves as a crossroads for the world's cultures: a vital, vibrant forum for reasoned argument, spirited debate and understanding across cultures. In the ALI Summer language program, you will study Arabic language alongside other international students.

Where You Will Study

The Arabic Language Institute (ALI) was initially established in 1921 as the Center for Arabic Studies. It has attracted thousands of students and scholars over the years from different parts of the world to pursue their study of Arabic at various levels. As part of one of the oldest private, accredited, foreign institutions of higher education in the Middle East, ALI continues to be the leading academic center for the study of Arabic, providing both students and faculty with the most comprehensive and diversified Arabic language instruction and training worldwide.

Academics

The Arabic Language Institute offers an intensive summer program from the first week of June until the last week of July. Students must take 20 hours of class per week to be considered full-time. Courses are offered at the beginner, intermediary and advanced level.

The summer curriculum offers two full load options: Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and Egyptian Spoken Arabic (ECA), or Modern Standard Arabic only, both at all levels.

Housing

The American University in Cairo offers two excellent residence facilities for students. The first is the Zamalek Dormitory, located in one of downtown Cairo's most popular residential districts - Zamalek. In Spring 2009, the brand new, on-campus student residence facility was launched in AUC New Cairo. This new residence facility provides a greater variety of living spaces for both men and women in the form of cottages or large townhouses. The on-campus residences carry the advantage of their close proximity to classes and University life. For more information about both residences, please check the residence hall information and amenities section on the AUC website.

Program Expenses, Financial Aid & Scholarships
