Where You Will Study

National Taiwan University (NTU) is the flagship university of Taiwan. Dedicated to excellence and leadership since 1928, National Taiwan University has contributed significantly to Taiwan’s rapid development into one of the world’s most competitive economies and democratic societies. Over the years, the University has acquired a reputation for academic excellence and cutting-edge research right in the heart of Asia. It is home to a lively community of more than 30,000 students (17,000 undergraduate and 15,000 graduate) developing their talents across 11 colleges, 2 professional schools, 54 departments, 103 graduate institutes and 66 research centers.

Academics

Students in Electrical Engineering may be able to take courses at NTU that will count toward their major requirements. Contact Dana Hansen for more information.

If you’re looking for a record of how courses from NTU have been transferred in the past, visit the credit equivalency database to help you determine what foreign courses might satisfy your academic needs here at the UW. For more information on how these courses will appear on your UW transcript, please visit credits for exchanges.

Housing

Students can opt to live in university dormitories in either single or twin suites. Housing fees for these dormitories range between TWD 4,900-8,800 (approx. USD $150-300) per month, including utilities

Program Expenses, Financial Aid, & Scholarships

Because the Electrical Engineering Department has a formal partnership with NTU, you pay an exchange fee equivalent to UW tuition (1.5 quarters of UW tuition for semester-long exchanges, and 3 quarters of UW tuition for academic year exchanges). Exchange fees are determined by UW residency status: in-state students pay an exchange fee equivalent to in-state tuition, and out-of-state students pay an exchange fee equivalent to out-of-state tuition. The exchange fee and study abroad fee are charged to your UW account and due by the UW tuition deadline for your term(s) of study abroad.

You will also need to plan for additional expenses such as international airfare & transportation, meals, books & course materials, visa & passport fees, study abroad insurance, and personal expenses. Living expenses including housing costs for exchange students in Taipei are between approximately USD $800 per month.

For your total estimated costs of this program, you may request a budget by filling out a Budget Request Form. For more information about budgeting, financial aid, and scholarships for study abroad, visit UW Study Abroad Finances.
