IE3 is an internship organization operated through the Oregon University System. As the UW has an affiliation with IE3, you will be working closely with both the UW and IE3 throughout the internship process.
Students are required to complete an academic project, supervised by a UW faculty member, as part of their internship. Students maintain financial aid eligibility as they are enrolled as UW students while participating on the internship.
Please refer to the program homepage for more information on the IE3 Global Internship program and for a full list of internship opportunities.
Students should apply directly on the IE3 website, creating an on-line application, and submitting all material submissions (eg: transcripts) to the IE3 office in Oregon. UW advisors will be able to review your IE3 on-line application and will contact you for an interview once your application is complete.
You must also create an on-line application on the UW Study Abroad website for the IE3 internship.
Students are required to complete either a 6 (Summer A or B Term) or 12 (per quarter) credit academic project, supervised by a UW faculty member. The requirements for earning these independent research or internship credits will be determined by the supervising professor. Ideally, the final research product is informed by the work that you are doing at the internship, but could include other topics of interest.
Once you have secured a faculty supervisor, students and their supervising professors will complete a credit pre-approval form and submit it to UW Study Abroad. The credit pre-approval form is one of the IE3 application components on the UW Study Abroad website.
After internship placement has been finalized and students have completed all of their pre-departure requirements on their UW Study Abroad application, they will be enrolled in FSTDY 300 placeholder credits by the UW Study Abroad office for the term(s) that they are abroad.
IE3 Internships take place throughout the year. Students can pursue internships during Autumn, Winter, Spring and/or Summer quarters. Depending on the placement there may be specified lengths or times of year when the internship is offered. Please refer to the program homepage listed above for more information.
