Where You Will Study

The National University of Singapore (NUS) is internationally acknowledged as one of the best universities in the Asia Pacific with a total enrollment of just over 30,000 students. Many degree seeking students come from other parts of Asia such as Malaysia, China and Indonesia and exchange students come from all over the world. The NUS campus is located about 12 km from the city center. The University's main campus at Kent Ridge is one of the most scenic areas in Singapore. It is well served by communication links, being 20 minutes by car from the airport, close to one of Singapore's main expressways and served by several bus routes. NUS is a self-contained campus, with a myriad of services available to faculty members, staff and students, ranging from the recreational to the functional.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) has 10 faculties offering undergraduate and graduate programs. The highest degree conferred by NUS is Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Also, NUS provides special programs with leading international tertiary institutions like MIT, Harvard, Stanford and Johns Hopkins.

NUS offers a full range of academic disciplines and exchange students can apply to most of the academic programs. However, certain programs and courses may be difficult to get into due to space issues. Students in business can only take one semester of courses from the business program, if at all.

NUS has a semester-based modular credit system for conducting courses. A typical full load of modules  for NUS students is 16 to 20 modular credits (MCs) per semester. The academic system and teaching methodology are both influenced by the British and the US systems.

Further general information

Classes available in English

If you’re looking for a record of how courses from National University of Singapore have been transferred in the past, visit the credit equivalency database to help you determine what foreign courses might satisfy your academic needs here at the UW.

For more information on how these courses will appear on your UW transcript, please visit: credits for exchanges.

Exchange students will be offered student resident housing to the extent it is available. If student residences are fully booked, exchange students will be referred to private room/apartment rental services. Student residences are located around the campus.

Program Expenses, Financial Aid & Scholarships

As a participant of a university exchange, you pay an exchange fee equivalent to UW tuition (1.5 quarters of UW tuition for semester-long exchanges, and 3 quarters of UW tuition for academic year exchanges). Exchange fees are determined by UW residency status: in-state students pay an exchange fee equivalent to in-state tuition, and out-of-state students pay an exchange fee equivalent to out-of-state tuition. The exchange fee and IPE administrative fee are charged to your UW account and due by the UW tuition deadline for your term(s) of study abroad. You should also budget for additional expenses such as international airfare & transportation, books & course materials, visa & passport fees, study abroad insurance and personal expenses.

For the total estimated costs of this particular program, you may request a budget by filling out a Budget Request Form.

For more information about budgeting, financial aid, and scholarships for study abroad visit our page on Finances.

Program Evaluations

After participating in a UW Study Abroad program, students are asked to complete a Program Evaluation Report detailing their experiences abroad and giving advice for future students. These reports cover all aspects of a student's time abroad, including orientation, academics, housing, finances, and cultural differences.
